About the Author

Dr. Charles Ghilani is a Professor of Engineering in the B.S. Surveying Engineering and A.S. Surveying Technology programs at Penn State. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a B.S. degree in mathematics and education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has been involved in education since 1974; teaching at various levels from elementary through graduate school. Dr. Ghilani has received numerous awards including: a Campus Innovation Award (1991) and Professional Development Award (1994), P.S.L.S. presidential commendation in 1990, Outstanding Club Advisor in 1992, a Distinguished Service Award from the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors in 1995, an American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) fellowship (1999), and the Earle J. Fennell Award (2001) for outstanding service in surveying and mapping education from ACSM. He is a member of the graduate faculty at Penn State and University of Maine. Dr. Ghilani is a member of the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping, the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors, and the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors. Dr. Ghilani has authored several professional publications, including Adjustment Computations: Statistics and Least Squares in Surveying and GIS, 5th Edition, and Elementary Surveying: An Introduction to Geomatics, 14th Edition.

Ok text book

Helped me pass this course

This book is the same as the hardcover in every way except 2. The page numbers don't match up as the preface is numbered instead of Roman numerals and the problems at the end of each section are not the same at all.

This text has a huge amount of content and I can be very informative. It is up to date, with lots of modern information. Unfortunately, it can be verbose to the point of confusion. That's true, especially with topics that are unfamiliar to the reader. Lots of time is spent referencing other chapters and sections, giving this student some mild whiplash. Halfway through my class now and every reading assignment is becoming more of a chore than the last.

This textbook is so helpful. Each chapter explains everything in detail and presents plenty of examples. It has all the formulas separately so it's easier to take notes on them. The language is very clear and easy to understand. This book is a great help if you have a teacher who confuses you. I recommend it.

content is well portrayed and very easy to understand. but there were multiple numerical errors as well as incorrect answers in the answer key. for the price of this book it should not have any issues. I would recommend renting over buying this edition

Well written and covers all the required topics. Not an easy read but definetly a good /excellent reference for surveying and civil engineering
