I’ve been in for 2 years now. If reading this book makes you feel better taking the test then by all means buy it. I bought it a while back before I joined and never read it and got 53 average score. You might be thinking “wow what an idiot†but I assure you if you are going in under any sort of open contract whether it be mechanical, electrical, or whatever you could get a 100% and still get a job you never wanted in the first place digging ditches like myself. I work with people who got much higher and much lower asvab scores. If you want to join you don’t need an amazing asvab score, and it doesn’t really mean anything unless you need a certain score for the job you want (which you might not get). You’ll understand soon enough.
I studied for the ASVAB for two week straight using the ASVAB for Dummies book. Since I was enlisting in the Air Force, and I wanted to get into RF Systems or Cyber Transport support, I needed a hella high score in science, math, and electronics. I read every section, but I focused on the math, science, and electronics sections. I felt that the practice tests were harder than the questions on the actual ASVAB at MEPS. This was cool, because I felt like I could answer most of the ASVAB questions okay. The ASVAB I took at MEPS was on a computer, so it was easier than doing the ASVAB on paper. Some of my friends didn't study for the ASVAB, so they were feeling kinda depressed after the test. After the ASVAB, I was exhausted, because it took me four hours. I received my score immediately after I completed the test. I got a 95 percentile out of 99. I was hella happy!!! I immediately called my recruiter to tell him how I scored.
Great book I love the "dummies" series from the ones Ive read so far. It doesn't dance around all the silly intricate baloney but gets to the point quickly and concisely. I went to the book store to review other asvab book help test material and they seemed so long winded and I felt like I would eventually get lost on the page staring aimlessly at intricate details which after a while can become monotonous and confusing. My actual test is scheduled for next week, the practice tests seem to be very helpful but the real proof will be in the pudding... so I guess till the actual deed is done this is mostly speculation so I guess we'll see next week. I bought this book and ASVAB AVQT for Dummies for my son who was (at the time and now IS) going into the Navy when he graduates this year. I was skeptical at first, wondering if 1. he would actually use them and 2. would they really help him get a better score. He had a VERY high goal score because the particular job he wanted to qualify for required a high score. We were not disappointed. I helped him study, we didn't need flash cards or anything else, just these books! Well, he made the score for the job he wanted. Great books, worth the investment unless you just want to coast (see what I did there?) by and pass. I have to add, I'm so proud of my son! GO NAVY!
This book was worth every nickel in preparing me for the ASVAB. I was at MEPS on Thursday and Friday this week and absolutely destroyed the ASVAB, earning an AFQT composite score of 96. If you actually take the time and read this book, memorize, memorize, memorize the info presented, and practice all of the tests, you will succeed in getting the score you need for your desired job. The information contained is up-to-date and the format is easy to understand and follow.If I were to change anything it would be to have the presentation of facts & various information altered slightly into, for instance, tables or charts to make it even easier to glance at. Sometimes I found it frustrating to locate info I knew I had previously seen but could not quickly locate while studying.
I didn't know where to start to study up so yeah why not I bought it.This book is awesome for anyone trying to brush up on any subject it's clear and to the point on all subjects easy to read and understand. I used it for college placement test, union job entry test, police dept exam, it's nice to have a paper back to just open up and read instead of wasting time trying to find some website on one subject.
Bought this book for my son to study with when he was thinking to go into the military. He raves about how it really helps with the math and in a kind big brotherly gesture, he gave it to her little sister for her use in her schooling (middle school student). Very informative and love that it explains how to do and figure out the answers clear even for knuckleheads to understand :)
I always recommend a diversified pool of resources for ant task, but this book contains that entire notion. It was bought for a graduating highschool senior hoping to go into a military career. As per all the other "For Dummies" books I've read, this is an easy read with a logical, flowing process to it. My teen was initially intimidated by the size, but after a pep talk declaring "divide and conquer" she realized that you can jump around in the chapters if desired. All in all a good all in-in-one resource.
