My low star review is in no way an indictment on the quality of the information presented in this text. It is, however, a sharp critique of Maurine Press who reprinted the book with little to almost no care whatsoever for its' readability. In several instances the text itself seems to have been just scanned and OCR'ed into new legible print and then not checked for errors as many erroneous symbols and letters and punctuation's appear seemingly out of nowhere.That isn't the worst offending part of the reprint, the worst part is that the publisher has taken the original illustrations and placed them crudely OVER the actual text of the book in many spots obscuring almost entire paragraphs in the process. You will read a passage, view an illustration then the next section of text seems to make no sense until you realize that the illustration is covering a portion of it!Get the book, but skip the Maurine Press publishing version.
Great information. Lots of truly advanced information in this book. This book has a lot of detail. Classic old school stuff. Working on older guns is more of an art than just changing out parts. Things have be made by hand,heat treated and fitted by hand. This is a classic work. If you have old guns or work on them, you should have a copy of this book in your library.
This book presents detailed information on operations working metal in firearms. It is dated, but it is a good start. Not all skills are covered, but includes references to more dated books, some which are very hard to find now. It has enough info get an idea what to search for with modern sources, like the internet to attempt a procedure. Learn the danger signs in each operation, this is no place for lazy.
This is the real deal. If you want to be a master gunsmith you need to understand how they did it in the past. Also, there is much to be learned about just working metal.
