I'll say the same thing I said about The Little Cafe in Copenhagen (another book by the same author). Cute - "is what it is" kind of book. A very quick/light read. And I obviously read two of the books, so liked them enough. But by the end of this one, I found myself shying away from the third - it's a little too light - I'm feeling the need for a little more substance the next go round. But these provided some decent effortless diversion when I was in the mood for just that.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series but found this one a disappointment. Too much sex & foul language, not necessary to the story & one is left wondering if this is the common language the author uses in her life. Sorry but won’t be bothering with the next book.
I enjoyed this read so much. Todd and Sophie are just perfect for each other and I found myself being so proud of Sophie as she rediscovered herself and the strength she had. I was rooting for Todd as well. There’s one very small criticism I have and that was that the dialogue was a bit incorrect in terms of American vernacular. It’s one thing for Sophie to talk in British vernacular but it felt off when Todd, Wed, or Bella did. Phrases like “Nipping off†isn’t commonly used in the states and being from the states, that part of the dialogue for the American characters threw me off just a little bit. Other than that, it was a fantastic read!
Amazing little book, could not put it down, thought the Copenhagen bakery was good, this one equaled it. Julie is a wonderful author, seems to knowhow to capture you.looking forward to the next book.
I hate writing negative reviews. I read the book in one day and the author should leave herself in England or learn American speech patterns. I struggled with it because it jarred me out of my reading every time. Which would seem like a small thing but every few pages to sometimes every page becomes annoying. I question where her editor was.The story itself was typical with expected end results. It’s a cookie cutter story line.
This book has good bones, but needs a bit of work.I found myself slightly irritated by the fact that despite the story being set in America with one primary character being British, all of the characters spend the length of the story speaking to each using very British phrasing. They don't sound American at all.It made reading the book so much less enjoyable for me.It just didn't match up. There were also several editing issues that made we wonder if it was self-published.
This is the third book which I’ve read in this series and my least favorite. It needs to be re-edited by an American. “Fancy†is not a verb here. It’s an adjective. Also, NO American magazine would ever have Christmas cake or Christmas pudding in their December issue. We eat pie and cookies. Also, interns don’t go to meetings and they don’t voice opinions. They get coffee and make copies for actual staff. There’s No such thing as a pastrami sub. Pastrami comes on Rye bread. Hot. She’s gonna spend six months in New York and not eat a dirty water hotdog? Pffft.
so sweet yet so good. Probably a great beach read while or for a long train ride. strong and sassy heroine meets strong and sexy hero equals recipe for success!
